In particular, the shipping company from the Dodecanese was named Best Greek Passenger Line Company for 2015, an award which establishes its place in Greek coastal shipping, celebrating its fifteen years of growing operation.
The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Dritsas, the former Minister Mr. M. Varvitsiotis, members of parliament, representatives of the business world, short sea and oceanic shipping ship owners, bank representatives, Hellenic Chamber of Shipping as well as Hellenic Seamen’s Federation representatives were present at the event.
The award was received by the daughter of director and founder of “Dodekanisos Seaways”, Ms Irene Spanou, who, after thanking the event coordinators, she presented a short timeline of the company history, emphasising the fact that the company in 2015 is celebrating 15 years of progress, and how “this award is the best present we could have received”.
Ms Spanou, deeply moved, dedicated the award to her father, highlighting that the company’s founding was a dream he had since childhood, to their executives, crews and all the company’s employees in general “who literally work their hearts out each and every day” and, finally, to all the islanders of Dodecanese, who have shown their invaluable support to the company from its beginning and continue to support it in every way.
The award criteria were route consistency, reliability, excellent organisation, quality services offered, innovative activities and mainly, the huge contribution in bringing the small islands isolation to an end and adding to their development in all fields.
It has to be noted that “Dodekanisos Seaways” is a unique example of coastal shipping company which connects 12-13 ports within the same day, a fact that has established it as the “sea metro of the Dodecanese”.
It is also useful to note that the same award, Best Passenger Line in Greece, was also awarded to Hellenic Seaways in 2014 and Blue Star Ferries in 2011 and 2012.
Maritime companies of ocean shipping were also awarded prizes, as was the Hellenic Coast Guard and Frontex for Environment Security, while Eurobank’s shipping department was also awarded as Shipping Financier for 2015.
It is finally noted that the Minister of Shipping Mr. Dritsas, as well as the former Minister, Mr. Varvitsiotis warmly congratulated Mr. Spanos for the honorary award.
“Dodekanisos Seaways” has also been honoured by the municipalities of Patmos, Chalki, Leros, Lipsi as well as the Prefecture of Dodecanese, for its significant contribution in local communities.
